In 2006 I breathed deeply and committed to ordering 4000 copies of a book, 'Perspectives'. The book is 64 page, A5 hard cover featuring my view of Mid Canterbury - from the varied farming types, to the beautiful wilderness space beyond the foothills. It was a sizeable investment in cash and time, that quantity was needed to achieve a realistic sale price through bookshops.
Apparently many other Mid Cantabrians were happy to see their home in print, the two pallets of books has gone and there are only a few dozen copies left. Rather than reprint, I'm working on a completely new book - Another Perspective :) - same size and format, but my favourite images from the last few years. It is our landscape, both the untouched space in the high country lakes and mountains as well as a good representation of our farming landscape.
I nearly have the layout finalised, it is quite a process first to select the images and then to decide which work together on a spread. I have found I enjoy placing two images of similar subjects together that are quite different; same-same but different as they say.
I intend to have to book ready for printing by late June. All going well it will be printed and ready to buy early in the Spring.
